Long-tail search terms

Broadly speaking, there are two types of keywords to target - short-tail and long-tail search terms.

We research the terms that convert best, saving you money.

Short-tail search terms are phrases such as "wedding photography". While being at the top for this phrase will undoubtedly bring you a lot of traffic, 99% of that traffic will be entirely useless and the money spent on SEO to get to the top of the search engines for that phrase will be mostly wasted.

Why is this? Wedding photography is generally a regional or local industry, and someone in Bradford searching for "wedding photography" is unlikely to be a qualified customer if you're a wedding photographer based in Cornwall!

Long-tail search terms would include the phrase "wedding photography in Cornwall", which would give you highly-qualified traffic. Someone searching from Bradford would no longer find your website, but everyone in Cornwall (your target audience) would.

Due to this search term being much easier to optimise for, you spend far less money on SEO and get a far better return on your spend.

"Longer search terms typically have less competition and convert better. This is the real secret to effective on-the-page SEO." - Aaron Wall, SEO expert.

Why we target the long-tail

By targeting long-tail search terms, you save money and get far better qualified traffic to your website. When targeting the long-tail, each and every person who hits your website is there because you have what they want.

As we love working with small businesses, targeting the long-tail of SEO allows us to keep our prices low.
